Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn't a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he's learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
