Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha/8 begins just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of wagering follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. A further round of wagering ensues. Once all the players have either called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering happens at which point the river card is flipped. The players will need to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where some players can get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Hold 'Em, in which the board can be every player's hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must use precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best hand out of everyone's, it doesn't matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It's the very same approach in nearly all poker games.

A lower hand is more complex, but really free's up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.

It may seem difficult at the outset, after a few hands you will be able to pick up on the basic nuances of the game simply enough. Since you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an exciting collection of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have several individuals battling for the high, as well as many shooting for the low hand. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to play Omaha/8.
