Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha hi-low begins just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. A further sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the players have either called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. a further round of wagering follows at which point the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a few entrants get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Hold 'Em, where the board can make up every player's hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must use precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player's, it doesn't matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the same notion in nearly all poker games.

A lower hand is more complex, but really free's up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don't count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem complicated initially, following a few hands you will be able to get the basic subtleties of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an exciting collection of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have numerous players shooting for the high, as well as many battling for the low. If you like a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
