Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn't a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he's learning every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
