Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible game, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better begins like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to each player. A round of betting follows where gamblers can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of wagering happens. After all the players have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting follows and then the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few entrants can get baffled. Contrasted to Hold'em, in which the board can be every player's hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must utilize precisely three cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of everyone's, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same approach in just about all poker games.

When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don't count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem complicated initially, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic subtleties of play with ease. Since you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better offers an overwhelming range of betting possibilities and because you have numerous individuals trying for the high hand, along with many battling for the low. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it's not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha hi lo.
