Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It's a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure variation, has expanded in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha 8 or better begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting follows in which players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. Another round of wagering happens and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of entrants get confused. Unlike Hold'em, where the board can be every player's hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to use precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It's the best possible hand out of every player's, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical approach in almost every poker game.

A lower hand is more complex, but really free's up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don't count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there's no low hand presented, the high hand wins the entire pot.

While it seems difficult initially, following a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the base subtleties of play simply enough. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha hi/low offers an overwhelming collection of betting choices and seeing that you have several individuals trying for the high hand, and many battling for the low hand. If you love a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it's not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
