Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
