Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn't a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he's learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
