Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he's learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
