Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn't allow the negative feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he's learning every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
