Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible variation, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha hi/lo begins like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues where players can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of wagering happens. After all the players have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting follows at which point the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a few entrants can get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can be everyone's hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It's the strongest possible hand out of everyone's, it doesn't matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same concept in almost every poker game.

The lower hand is more complex, but really opens up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there's no low hand available, the higher hand wins the whole pot.

It may seem difficult initially, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the base subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha hi-low provides an exciting array of betting choices and because you have numerous players battling for the high hand, along with many shooting for the low.
